Strike Action - 29th November
RE: Strike Action
Dear Parent
You may be aware from the media that teaching unions belonging to the Northern Ireland Teaching Council have announced a half day strike to take place on Wednesday 29th November 2023.
The strike is happening because the 5 teacher unions are campaigning for a fair pay settlement for teachers. Teachers' pay has dropped by a staggering 25% in the past decade, causing recruitment and retention issues, resulting in a continued shortage of teachers. Teachers in England are paid £6000 more than here, in Scotland it’s £8000 and in the south, £12000 more. It's time to take action and demand a fair pay settlement for those responsible for providing the best education for children and young people.
As a result of the strike therefore, school will be closed until 12.00. Please do not send or bring children to school before 12.00 as gates will not be open and children standing outside on the pavement present a safeguarding and health & safety risk.
School dinners will be available as normal.
I am sorry about the potential disruption to your child’s education and I understand that this will be challenging and frustrating for parents but unfortunately a message needs to be sent to whoever it is who govern us.
Yours faithfully
